Ferguson tipped to land Everton job full-time after 'brilliant' source reveal - pundit

Noel Whelan has suggested Duncan Ferguson could be given the Everton job full-time if he can preserve the club’s Premier League status this term.

The former Leeds striker, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, insisted the 50-year-old is “the best” option for the struggling Toffees at present.

This site revealed on Sunday (16 January) that Ferguson and Leighton Baines could be put in interim charge at Everton following the sacking of Rafa Benitez.

The former Toffees striker, affectionately known as ‘Big Dunc’, previously took caretaker charge at Goodison Park in December 2019.

Whelan claimed the former Scotland international could make the Everton board “sit up and take notice” by impressing between now and the end of the season.

“They’re the best two they could go for,” he told Football Insider‘s Ewan Kingsbury.

“You can’t get a much better person to come in and take charge short-term than Duncan. He’s brilliant with the players.

“He can wind the players up and coax that passion out of them. He will get 100% out of those players, on and off the ball.

“They need him right now. They should let him see the job through until the end of the season and find some continuity.

“I think if he does that, the Everton board have got to sit up and take notice.

“He will find a way to win games. I’m sure Duncan will keep them up. He could even be the person to take them forward when the dust settles.

Ferguson earned a win against Chelsea and draws against Arsenal and Man United during his four-game spell in charge in 2019.

The former striker has been part of the coaching staff under Benitez and Carlo Ancelotti.
