Finance guru: Liverpool on course for ‘huge’ boost as £2m already in the bag – ‘It’s unheard of’
An unprecedented quadruple would give Liverpool a “huge” advantage in negotiations with potential new sponsors.
So says finance expert Doctor Dan Plumley, speaking exclusively to Football Insider about the Merseysiders’ semi-final success against Man City.
Liverpool progressed to the final, where they will face Chelsea on 15 May, after the 3-2 victory over City at Wembley last Saturday (16 April).
They have now bagged £2.4million in prize money for reaching the competition’s showpiece, per the FA’s official remuneration breakdown.
Jurgen Klopp’s side have already secured the League Cup this season and also remain in the running for the Champions League and Premier League.
And Plumley claims that an “unheard of” quadruple would catapult them to a new level in terms of commercial prospects.
“If they win the FA Cup, they’ll have got £3.4m in prize money,” the Sheffield Hallam University expert told Football Insider‘s Adam Williams.
“If they finish runners up it’ll be £2.4m. Those are the numbers in terms of direct prize money. There’s a bit more for TV money, but it’s not massive.
“What they are looking to is the added value with sponsors, clients and new commercial partners.
“If they can point to being treble winners or even quadruple winners, that would give them huge leverage.
“We still refer back to the Man United treble-winning team in 1999, so you can use that status to your advantage.
“But imagine a quadruple. It’s unheard of in the modern game.”

Liverpool, who trail City by one point, are in action against arch-rivals Man United in the Premier League tonight (19 April).
They face Villareal in the semi-finals of the Champions League, with the first leg at Anfield set for next Wednesday (27 April).
