Finance guru: Liverpool side with ‘top agents’ as £22m transfer payout confirmed
Liverpool will side with Uefa against Fifa’s new intermediary restrictions in order to maintain their relationships with “top agents”.
That is the view of finance expert Doctor Dan Plumley. speaking exclusively to Football Insider about Liverpool’s likely stance in the ongoing conflict between two of football’s most powerful governing bodies.
Fifa have stepped up their attempt to clamp down on agent fees and want to cap their earnings to three per cent of a player’s salary and 10 per cent of any transfer they engineer.

However, the Daily Mail reported last month (23 December) that Uefa aren’t entirely on board with the proposed changes and are not willing to throw their full support behind the idea.
Plumley believes Liverpool will side with Uefa and oppose Fifa’s proposal in order to try and retain good links with the agents that represent their players.
Liverpool paid £22million on agents’ fees between February 2021 and the end of January this year.
“I think if you focus on Liverpool they probably will be siding more with UEFA at this stage,” the finance expert told Football Insider.
“Because, while some agents get a really bad rep, there are also some really good agents out there as well that look after their players well.
“From a non-financial side, happy players with happy agents tend to be more settled and easier to integrate into your squad.
“Obviously, the top teams have a good relationship with lots of top agents, so taking all that into account I think Liverpool will definitely be on the side of UEFA.
“I know there’s a cost element to clubs and agent fees are extremely high but it’s a necessary evil at the moment.

“The majority of agents aren’t bad so if it works well for Liverpool and they have good relationships with lots of agents then they’ll be learning towards UEFA.
“On top of that, Liverpool have a good relationship with UEFA anyway from playing in their competition and that comes into account too.“
