Finance guru: Liverpool ready to sell after ‘massive’ £7.4bn reveal
Liverpool will be among a handful of clubs wanting to sell some of their own broadcasting rights after hearing the 10-figure Capcom cuts to Sky.
That is the view of finance guru Dan Plumley, speaking exclusively to Football Insider about the latest broadcasting cuts facing Sky after a poor commercial performance in 2022.
Sky is one of the main broadcasting hubs for Premier League football, but the British company is facing pressure from American owners to cut costs.

Capcom announced on 27 October they have slashed the value of Sky by £7.4billion after revenue fell by 13.8% in Q2 2022 and 255,000 subscribers left.
With Sky providing a large chunk of the broadcast money handed out to Premier League clubs every season, the cuts will be felt by every top-flight club.
Plumley believes Liverpool will be one of the most affected clubs but insists the Reds are planning ahead by looking to sell their own broadcasting rights to take more control.
“This is something to be very aware of with the medium to long-term rights,” the Sheffield Hallam University expert told Football Insider‘s Adam Williams.

“A massive chunk of those overseas rights is from the United States which I think would offset things if we saw a decline in the domestic rights.
“But this is another reason why clubs like Liverpool want to sell some of their own broadcasting rights.
“They would be in direct control over that and they can deal with supporters directly rather than going through the competitions.
“But I think at this stage we are still quite far away from a situation where we see that.”
