Finance guru: Super League organisers trying to ‘lure’ Liverpool after private meeting

The Super League will try to “lure” Liverpool and the founding clubs back to the Super League following their private summit.

That is the view of finance expert Dr Dan Plumley, who spoke exclusively to Football Insider about the future of the Super League project.

Liverpool were one of six Premier League clubs involved in the initial Super League plans launched back in April 2021.

The Reds eventually pulled out of the project following mass public backlash and reaffirmed their stance against the proposal in October.

However, Football Insider sources revealed that Super League chiefs held a summit in Brussels last Friday (6 January) and are showing no signs of halting their aggressive PR campaign.

A22 Sports Management – the company behind the project – met for a private meeting with chief executives of clubs still keen on reigniting the Super League.

Plumley believes the Super League project is here to stay, and that they will continue to propose further plans to try and lure the founding clubs back in.

“The Super League was never going to go down without a fight,” Plumley told Football Insider’s Adam Williams.

“I don’t think this is ever something that is going to fully go away.

“The clubs still involved will continue to fight for it and will keep lobbying and keep trying to lure other clubs back in.

“We’ll see another proposal come down the line and the legal battle will continue to rumble on in the background.

“It was no surprise to see them hold that meeting over the weekend.”
