Firpo set to be axed by Leeds against Crystal Palace after MOTD pundit issues 'disaster' verdict - Whelan
Junior Firpo could be dropped as Leeds United take on Crystal Palace on Tuesday, according to Noel Whelan.
The former Whites striker, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, insisted the 25-year-old was “off the pace” against Brighton on Saturday (November 27th).
Firpo was run ragged by Seagulls defender Tariq Lamptey as the two sides played out a 0-0 draw – committing four fouls before being hooked by Marcelo Bielsa at half-time.
Speaking on the BBC’s Match of the Day (November 27th), former England defender Micah Richards said the Spanish defender had a “disaster”, claiming the left-back “didn’t know what day it was”.
Firpo was making his first start since recovering from a muscular issue that kept him on the sidelines for four games.
Whelan insisted the summer signing could be benched by Bielsa.

Leeds United face clashes against Crystal Palace and Brentford across five days this week.
“I think it was obvious he was off the pace at the weekend,” Whelan told Football Insider‘s Ewan Kingsbury.
“He was up against Lamptey, who we know is a good player with plenty of pace.
“Firpo’s lack of game time was obvious to see. He didn’t have that energy; his passing was a little bit off – and he certainly wasn’t up to match sharpness.
“You need to be at 100% in the Premier League. He’ll know it wasn’t one of his better games but he’ll just have to build his fitness back up, and that might mean we will see him on the bench at some point this week.”
Firpo joined Leeds United from Barcelona in July 2021 for a reported £12.8million.
He has made 10 appearances this term.
