Firpo tipped to take Leeds to new level after 'brilliant' news emerges - ex-manager
Alex McLeish has tipped Junior Firpo to bring an elite-level mentality to Leeds United ahead of a prospective move from Barcelona.
Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the former Scotland boss suggested the 24-year-old would offer a “fantastic level” of quality and professionalism after his time at the Nou Camp.
As revealed by Football Insider on Tuesday (June 29th), Leeds have agreed a £12.8million deal to sign Firpo.
A United source added that the defender will jet into England and undergo a medical over the coming days, with the deal set to be done by the end of this week.
The left-back joined the Catalan giants from Real Betis for around £16million in 2019.
He still has three years left on his contract.

McLeish suggested Firpo’s two years in Barcelona had lifted him to a “great level”.
As such, he claimed Leeds would be getting an ambitious and mentally strong character.
McLeish told Football Insider’s Russell Edge: “When you’re in an environment like Barcelona and you move somewhere else, you’re thinking: ‘I’m at a great level.’
“‘I’m going here with a brilliant level. I will bring my level to this great opportunity for me to go to Leeds United and work under Marcelo Bielsa.’
“That’s got to be uppermost in that chap’s mind. Every player has produced a level whereby Leeds have been elevated to this existence now.
“They were in the Championship and now finishing up ninth in the Premier League. It’s brilliant.”
Ezgjan Alioski and Stuart Dallas were Bielsa’s primary left-back choices last season.
Firpo played 18 times across all competitions during the 2020/21 campaign.
He has made a total of 41 appearances under his belt for Barca.
