2. Tony Barton
Tony Barton replaced Saunders having previously served as his assistant manager, but he managed to upstage his former superior within four months by winning the European Cup.
Though it was essentially Saunders’ squad that won the European title, Barton was the man who got them over the line by winning 1-0 against Bayern Munich thanks to a legendary goal by Peter Withe.
The next season, Barton led the Villains to a European Super Cup victory before leaving in 1984.
