Five Tottenham players being 'drilled hard' by Conte during international break - pundit
Tottenham boss Antonio Conte will spend the international break trying to improve his side’s defence.
That’s according to former Aston Villa boss Alex McLeish, speaking exclusively to Football Insider about Spurs’ “woeful” defence.
Conte, 52, has already tried to mould the Tottenham defence in his image, starting with a five at the back system in both of his games in charge.
This has seen Ben Davies become a makeshift centre back while Emerson Royal and Sergio Reguilon have found themselves in very advanced positions.
Due to the radical change in system, McLeish insists Conte’s focus will be on drilling his defenders ahead of the return of the Premier League.
“I firmly believe Conte will spend the international break improving his defence,” McLeish told Football Insider correspondent Ben Wild.

“If he is going to play that system, that back five needs to be drilled hard over the break.
“He can have videos out and can show them everything. When I was a young player we did defensive work every day.
“We formed a solid defence and that built our success. Tottenham need success and their defence hasn’t been at it. It’s been woeful in truth.
“I am certain Conte will be working with his defenders over the break so they can get some much-needed clean sheets on the board.”
Tottenham face Leeds at home after the international break.
They lie ninth in the Premier League after they drew 0-0 with Everton last weekend.
