Florian Wirtz add-on conditions revealed with £116m Liverpool deal dissected

Florian Wirtz’s move to Liverpool was the first of an ambitious big-money tirade from the Merseyside club this summer.

Wirtz joined Liverpool in a deal worth £116 million, a British transfer record at the time, from German club Bayer Leverkusen.

The 22-year-old has had a slow start to his Premier League career having struggled to adapt to the Premier League thus far.

Wirtz will be looking to kickstart his campaign this weekend against Burnley, alongside new signing Alexander Isak, whose £125m deadline day deal knocked the £116m man off top spot as the record British transfer.

Florian Wirtz’s transfer add-ons revealed

Arne Slot has been utilising Wirtz in a more centralised number 10 role in the first three games of the season, whereas Xabi Alonso allowed the German to have a more free-roaming role, particularly on the left hand side, while at Bayer Leverkusen.

As Wirtz’s slow start begins to attract attention to his sizeable price tag, The Times reporter Paul Joyce has revealed additional details regarding the add-ons linked to Wirtz’s transfer fee.

The news, via Anfield Sector on X (formerly Twitter), says: “Florian Wirtz’s guaranteed fee was £100million.

“Add-ons of up to £16million will only be triggered should Liverpool savour success four times in either the Premier League or Champions League.”

Florian Wirtz can live up to his price tag

Wirtz came from Leverkusen with much fanfare, and those who watched the young star in the Bundesliga could see Liverpool had signed a special player.

The attacking midfielder is intelligent with his movement off the ball, and will always look to pick up pockets of space in which he can affect the game.

A technically sound player who has the control over the lion’s share of set pieces at Anfield, Wirtz will soon begin to make his stamp on the Premier League.

The major question marks over Wirtz revolve around his ability to play in a team that is filled with superstars like at Liverpool.

While he has taken time to settle in, a player of Wirtz’s creative ability will surely find success soon, playing alongside the quality of Mohamed Salah, Cody Gakpo, Isak, and Hugo Ekitike, even if it is in a reduced capacity.
