‘Florian Wirtz makes Man City transfer decision after agent misinformation’

Man City’s 2024-25 campaign is not yet over but they are already at the heart of a transfer saga as they chase the signature of Florian Wirtz.

It has been widely reported that Hans and Karin Wirtz, who represent the player, flew to England in recent days – but it is unclear whether they spoke to City or Liverpool about a move.

David Ornstein of The Athletic reported on Wednesday (14 May) that the new Premier League champions have made contact with the attacking midfielder’s camp.

Meanwhile, Bayern Munich are also part of the race for the Bayer Leverkusen star – and were previously considered to be leading the chase for the 22-year-old.

Everton’s former chief Keith Wyness – who served as CEO at Goodison Park between 2004 and 2009 and now runs a football consultancy advising elite clubs – has had his say on “agent misinformation” at the heart of this new transfer saga.

Guardiola to build new-look Man City around Wirtz’, says Wyness

Speaking on the new edition of Football Insider’s Inside Track podcast, Wyness insisted he expects Man City to “pull something out of the bag” and land Wirtz.

He has made 44 appearances across all competitions for Leverkusen this term, notching 16 goals and 15 assists.

Wyness told Football Insider‘s Inside Track podcast: “City are in there and I think they’ll pull something out of the bag this summer.

“I wouldn’t be surprised to see him at City this summer, they are pretty determined to bring him in.

“I think they will get him.

“There has been a lot of placing of different stories by the agents again, and this will be a very difficult summer for that kind of thing.

“You’re going to see all sorts of disinformation in the media, because it’s a really big, crucial transfer window.

“There’s going to be a lot of activity.

“I actually think he will end up with City. Pep wants to build the new-look City around him.”

Grealish set for crunch Man City talks

Meanwhile, Football Insider has revealed (13 May) that Man City star Jack Grealish will seek assurances from manager Guardiola this summer.

Grealish has not seen action in each of the last four Premier League games and has started just seven top-flight matches this term.

The winger is under contract at the Etihad Stadium until June 2027.
