Foden and Gusto react as Rayan Cherki issues new update on Man City start

Rayan Cherki only joined Man City earlier this month but appears to be settling in well at the club, judging by his latest message and reactions from the likes of Phil Foden and Malo Gusto.

The 2024/25 campaign was a disappointing one by the standards of Pep Guardiola‘s side, as they failed to win a single piece of major silverware.

That highlighted the need for the club to strengthen in the summer transfer, with Cherki already being brought in from Lyon to help replace the departing Kevin De Bruyne.

Cherki made his debut for Man City in their win over Wydad Casablanca in their opening game of the Club World Cup earlier this month.

He quickly built on that as well, scoring his first goal for Guardiola’s side in a 6-0 thrashing of Al-Ain in their second group game of the competition.

Rayan Cherki relaxes with progress secured

Thanks to those two wins, Man City have already qualified for the knockout stages of the Club World Cup, before their final group game against Juventus on Thursday (26 June).

As a result, the squad have seemingly been able to enjoy some down time ahead of that game, which has allowed Cherki to get to know his teammates even better.

Taking to Instagram, the France international posted a set of images of the squad relaxing at the beach, along with the caption: “Some good time with the team”.

In response, a number of his new Man City teammates including Foden, Rico Lewis, Vitor Reiss, Manuel Akanji, Josko Gvardiol, Nathan Ake and Tijjani Reijnders all liked the post.

Others away from the club including Chelsea right-back Gusto, Man United centre-back Leny Yoro and West Ham’s Lucas Paqueta – who played with Cherki at Lyon – all did the same.

Man City will welcome new update

Football Insider Verdict

With such a busy schedule between last season and the next, this chance for a brief interlude to relax will be good for Guardiola’s squad.

Not only is a chance for them to referesh to some extent, it can help the likes of Cherki integrate with his new Man City teammates, as he appears to be doing.

The 21-year-old has a big job on his hands next season as he aims to replace the hugely influential De Bruyne at the Etihad.

Having made a positive start on the pitch while seemingly settling in well with the new squad off it, there may at least be a reason for those at Man City to be confident he can do that.
