Foderingham: This is the reason why I signed for Rangers
Rangers goalkeeper Wes Foderingham has admitted playing in games like Saturday’s Old Firm is the reason he joined Rangers in 2015 from Swindon Town.
The shot-stopper has been a mainstay in the Ibrox side since moving north and is set to play in his eighth Old Firm when the Gers travel to Celtic Park this weekend to face Brendan Rodgers’ side.
With a lack of European football for the Gers after their early knockout in the Europa League, Old Firm games are the only huge fixture left on the Glasgow giants’ calendar this season.
Foderingham has only came out on top once in his eight Old Firm appearances – a Scottish Cup semi-final win in 2016 – and would love to taste a league victory over the Gers’ bitter rivals.
“You can’t dread an Old Firm game. You don’t come here and dread those kinds of fixtures,” Foderingham said, as quoted by the club’s official website.
“I look forward to them and the boys look forward to them too.
“This is the reason why we came to this club, to play in these types of games and ultimately to win in these types of fixtures as well which is what we will be aiming to do.”
The Gers trail their city rivals by eleven points going into the second Old Firm clash of the season and a win would be a huge boost for Graeme Murty’s side ahead of the three-week winter break in January.
Foderingham has made 116 appearances for the Light Blues and has won the Scottish Championship and Scottish Challenge Cup while at Ibrox.
The 26-year-old recently signed an extension to his contract which will keep him at Ibrox until the summer of 2020.
