Pochettino makes bizarre claim about Tottenham CL group, says who will finish top

Tottenham manager Mauricio Pochettino has bizarrely claimed that APOEL Nicosia have a chance of qualifying for the knock-out stages of the Champions League.
The Cypriot side are the lowest ranked team in Group H which also includes holders Real Madrid and German powerhouses Borussia Dortmund.
Spurs kick off their European campaign against Dortmund at Wembley on Wednesday night while APOEL are thrown straight into the deep end with a visit to the Bernabeu.
Pochettino is under no illusions that Madrid will be nailed on favourites to top the group, but admits that APOEL could be right up there challenging for the runner-up spot.
“It’s true in theory it’s Real first and then Tottenham, Dortmund and APOEL compete to be second. But football is not theory,” said the Argentine manager, as quoted by Yahoo Sport journalist Ben Pearce on his personal Twitter account on Tuesday afternoon.

APOEL haven’t even reached the group stages of the Champions League in the last two seasons having dropped out at the play-offs on both occasions.
They had some great success in 2011/12 when they reached the quarter finals, but on that occasion they were handed a much easier group consisting of Porto, Zenit St. Petersburg and Shakhtar Donetsk.
After beating Lyon, the Cypriot giants were then knocked out by Real Madrid 8-2 on aggregate, showing that they are nowhere near a match from the tougher teams that are in Tottenham’s group this term.
