West Ham are in need of a boost this season as their Premier League campaign continues to hit stumbling blocks.
Slaven Bilic’s side suffered a 5-1 FA Cup defeat last Friday at the hands of Manchester City – the second time they conceded five goals at home this term.
One of the names the Hammers have been interested in signing during the January transfer window is Sunderland striker Jermain Defoe, but the London club should look at Christian Benteke to help end their woes.
The Crystal Palace man joined the Eagles for a club record fee of £30million last summer and could now reportedly be heading out of the exit door after just five months.
West Ham should pay the money required to land the Belgian as he has shown he adds goals to the team – something the east London club desperately require.
Summer signing duo Ashley Fletcher and Simone Zaza have failed to score in the Premier League this season, while Bilic cannot be reliant on the injury-prone duo of Andy Carroll and Diafra Sakho.
Therefore, adding a striker that has scored eight goals for a struggling Palace side this season, will help kick start their miserable campaign.
Not only that, it will help bring the best out of Dimitri Payet, whose delivery into the box will suit Benteke’s style of play.
The Hammers are seven points above the relegation zone as they have scored 23 goals in 20 league games this season.
Adding Benteke to their ranks will ease their worries and answer their long-term striking options.
In other West Ham news, the Hammers have upped their bid of this goal machine by £2million.
