Leeds United need a complete overhaul in the striking position this summer after a string of dismal displays from pretty much every single one of their so-called “hitmen.”
But Benik Afobe is the man that can change all their woes.
While Kemar Roofe is out in the lead with 13 goals in the Championship this season, he’s not popular with fans and he’s not consistent enough to lead the line next season.
The leading out and out striker at Elland Road is Pierre-Michel Lasogga with ten to his name but his lack of effort up front and immobility has led to calls for him to never play for the club again – he’s due to return to Hamburg at the end of this season anyway.
And the less that is said about the rest of them, the better.
At 25, Afobe has shown that he is not Premier League standard but the Championship is where he is most comfortable and where he continues to show his worth.
Since signing for Wolves in the January transfer window, the ex-Arsenal youth player has registered five goals in just five starts for the league table-toppers, proving he knows how to find the back of the net at this level.
Not only that but his all-round effort and work-horse attitude have made him an instant hit at Molineux and is something that would be similarly appreciated at Elland Road where they have lacked a player who is prepared to roll up his sleeves.
Wolves have a buying option for the Bournemouth forward but with Afobe likely to be out of his league in the Premier, Leeds should step in and show their hand.
