This Rodgers masterstroke for Celtic will cancel out massive loss of Roberts
The news that Celtic’s on-loan winger Patrick Roberts could be out for up to three months would have caused panic amongst the Celtic support in the past.
Fans are still obviously upset at a player suffering such a long lay-off.
However the absence of such a key player won’t be the hammer blow it could have been thanks to the form of his replacement, James Forrest.
Forrest’s double off the bench against Motherwell yesterday took him to ten goals for the season, which is already the best return of his career.
He has completely turned his career around at Celtic. It seemed to be going stagnant under Ronny Deila but since Brendan Rodgers has arrived the 25-year-old winger has gone from strength to strength.

This season Forrest has used his low centre of gravity to have more shots on goal, which is why he is in double figures for the season already.
He has also not been afraid to take players on, as shown by his great performance against Bayern Munich in the Champions League where he ripped them apart and created umpteen chances for the Hoops.
The decision by Brendan Rodgers to award Forrest a new contract at the start of last season was met with incredulity at the time from some Celtic supporters.
On reflection it’s turned out to be one of the best decisions that the manager has made in his time at the club, as Forrest has turned into a mainstay of the side and is a potential player of the year this season.
