Tottenham fans took to Twitter to heavily criticise Davinson Sanchez following his performance in their team’s 3-1 Premier League defeat to Manchester City on Saturday night.
The centre-back, 21, was once again paired with Jan Vertonghen in defence as Mauricio Pochettino stuck with the duo who had been at the heart of team’s long unbeaten run.
But that ground to a halt at Wembley as Spurs struggled to cope with City’s potent front line, which scored three times through Gabriel Jesus and Leroy Sane before half-time, and Raheem Sterling in the second period.
Christian Eriksen pulled one back for Mauricio Pochettino’s side but that proved to only be a consolation as they suffered their first league defeat in the calendar year.
Tottenham supporters on social media were unimpressed with Sanchez as many questioned his inclusion in the starting XI ahead of Toby Alderweireld, who did not even make the substitute’s bench.
Here is a selection of their messages on Twitter:
Wtf has Davidson Sanchez been smoking today? Utterly dreadful! #COYS

I came out of that game with 3 thoughts
1. Lloris is making too many mistakes and has to subbed, sorry has to be done
2. Sanchez got found out tonight BIG TIME

3 shots on target in 90mins but it’s the defenders fault we lost tonight
Just pay Toby the 180k so he can help us lose 2-1 instead of 3-1
Sanchez is terrible because we went 4 months in the league unbeaten.
Levy pay the man the money !

Perhaps the Citeh match demonstrated why Spurs should try their best to keep Toby. Sanchez utterly out of his depth – the boy’s still only 21. Toby’s experience might have made a difference. #COYS #THFC

People may disagree, but we needed Alderweireld tonight. Jan had a superb game, and Sanchez is still learning. As a duo Toby and Jan are formidable. Sanchez has been good with Jan, but is still raw. Tottenham need to build. Not sell and replace! #COYS

Poch decision not to start Son was a bit arrogant especially with him being in the form he’s been. Today has also proved that Sanchez still has a lot to learn. He should be learning watching Tobi and Jan play together and playing from time to time. #COYS

May I ask where the hell is Toby? Sanchez cost us so much today. #COYS

Poch outclassed by Guardiola and had no answer to his tactics. And Sanchez and Lloris made so many mistakes. delusional to think Sanchez is anywhere near Alderweireld’s level #coys
