Frank Lampard, Craig Bellamy: Burnley chiefs at odds over next manager – sources

Burnley chiefs are at odds over who to appoint as their next manager to replace Vincent Kompany, sources have told Football Insider.

Kompany has agreed a deal in principle to become the new Bayern Munich boss after Football Insider first revealed on 23 May a deal was close for him to link up with the Bundesliga giants.

Sources say that Burnley chief executive Paul Fletcher wants to appoint the Belgian’s assistant manager Craig Bellamy as his successor, with the Welshman very keen to take on the role.

But Clarets owner Alan Pace is eager to bring in a big name such as former Chelsea and Everton boss Frank Lampard as the club’s new manager.

Frank Lampard could replace Vincent Kompany as Burnley manager

Kompany emerged as the top candidate to replace Thomas Tuchel at Bayern after several managers have turned down the German club.

The Belgian’s stock has remained high over the past year despite Burnley’s relegation to the Championship.

Bellamy has spent the past five years working as Kompany’s assistant at Anderlecht and then Burnley, but he is not expected to make the move to Germany.

The 44-year-old could potentially become the Clarets’ new boss, but he has a battle on his hands to persuade Pace he is the right man for the job.

The American owner is believed to be set on bringing someone like Lampard to Turf Moore rather than hand Bellamy his first role as a manager.

While Lampard has faced challenging spells with Chelsea and Everton in recent years, the 45-year-old previously led Derby County to the Championship play-off final before making the move to Stamford Bridge.
