Lampard destroys Pochettino: This is why Tottenham lost to Chelsea
By Harry Sykes
Frank Lampard has claimed on BBC One that Mauricio Pochettino made a selection blunder by opting to use Son Heung-Min in defence in Tottenham’s FA Cup 4-2 defeat to Chelsea.
The Spurs manager sprung a major surprise when he axed Ben Davies, who has performed consistently over the last two months, and started attacking midfielder Son at left wing-back for the semi-final clash at Wembley on Saturday.
It was a decision that backfired as Son struggled to deal with the attacking thrusts of his opponent Victor Moses and needlessly hacked down the Nigerian to concede the first-half penalty that handed Chelsea a 2-1 advantage shortly before half-time.
A Willian double and late strikes from Eden Hazard and Nemanja Matic were enough to secure Chelsea a place in the final against either Arsenal or Manchester City, who go head to head on Sunday.
But the Willian penalty proved pivotal to the outcome and Tottenham fans heaped the blame more on Pochettino than Son as they questioned why the manager had decided to use an attacking player in such an unfamiliar role.

It was a view echoed by Chelsea legend Lampard, who was at Wembley on Saturday working as a pundit for BBC One’s live coverage of the clash.
“I never like it when an attacking player is used in defence,” Lampard told the Match of the Day programme’s coverage of the match. “It didn’t work. Why Son dived in like that, I don’t know.
“He is not a proper defender and it showed. Pochettino got that one wrong, he shouldn’t have been that deep.”
Spurs’ dream of a league and cup double is over for another 12 months but they have been given a real glimmer of hope in the title race by Chelsea’s recent stutters in which they have lost two of their last four matches.
Tottenham will resume action in the league in midweek aiming to narrow the gap on Chelsea to less than four points.
Spurs have won seven consecutive league matches to ensure that the title race goes down to the wire.
In other Tottenham team news, the club have sensationally terminated the contract of one of their defenders.
