Frank Lampard in Coventry City talks as Championship manager joins race -sources
Frank Lampard is set for Coventry City talks as they step up their search for a new manager but he faces competition for the post, sources have told Football Insider.
Blackburn Rovers boss John Eustace and Swansea City number two Alan Sheehan are also in contention for the vacant role at the CBS Arena.
Coventry are searching for their first new manager in almost eight years following the sacking of long-serving Mark Robins on Thursday.
The east Midlands outfit sit 17th in the Championship, only out of the relegation zone on goal difference, after their 2-1 defeat at home to Derby on Wednesday night.
Lampard is believed to be the current favourite to permanently replace Robins but he has held talks with multiple Championship clubs in recent months without agreeing terms.
Football Insider revealed that the former Chelsea and Everton manager was interviewed by both Burnley and Birmingham City over the summer.
Robins took the reins at Coventry in 2017, guiding the club to promotion to League One the following year and then up into the Championship two seasons later.
The midweek result leaves them 17th in the Championship table and level on points with Plymouth Argyle, who are in the relegation zone after 14 games of the 2024-25 campaign.
Frank Lampard is top Coventry contender after Robins sacking
Lampard has been out of work since a woeful caretaker spell at Chelsea, which saw him win just one of 11 games.
His last permanent role was with Everton, where he lasted just shy of a year before being sacked with a record of 12 wins in 44 games.
The former England midfield has been strongly linked with a host of vacancies since, such as Rangers, Burnley and most recently Roma, and spoke in the summer of his readiness for a new role.

Coventry sacked the popular Robins despite him leading the club to a play-off final shoot-out loss in the 2022-23 season and an FA Cup semi-final last term.
Their last fixture before the November international break comes against leaders Sunderland in Saturday’s 3pm kick-off.
