Frank Lampard raves about Tottenham defender after Manchester United win
Frank Lampard heaped huge praise on Tottenham defender Kieran Trippier after his efforts in the win against Manchester United.
The 27-year-old right-back played the full game as Spurs beat rivals United 2-0 at Wembley Stadium in the Premier League.
Christian Erksen took just 11 seconds into the match to open the scoring for the hosts after a brilliant start and Mauricio Pochettino’s side continued to play on the front foot.
Phil Jones then netted an own goal with his attempted clearance from a whipped Trippier cross into the penalty area.
The north London club made great group up on the top four and are now just two points adrift of fourth-placed Chelsea, who suffered a shock 3-0 home loss to Bournemouth on Wednesday night.
Chelsea legend and now pundit Lampard decided to single out full-back Trippier for special praise for his individual display as he constantly proved to be an attacking threat.
“Kieran Trippier I thought was actually very unlucky not to be man of the match,” Lampard said during BT Sport’s televised coverage of Spurs v Man United on Wednesday night.
“He was right up there with Eriksen with his delivery and how high he play and the attacking influence he had on the game
Trippier has become renowned as an attack-minded defender and has proven he is one of the best crossers of football in the division on his day.
He was certainly at his best in midweek against United as he proved a nightmare for their left-back Ashley Young to deal with.
Trippier will be looking to be in the England squad for the World Cup in the summer and performances like Wednesday should give him a great chance.
In the latest Tottenham news, the club’s supporters reacted to the confirmed signing of Lucas Moura.
