‘Frank Lampard to get Coventry transfer cash to spend in January’
Frank Lampard will be given money to spend by Coventry City in the January transfer window, Clinton Morrison believes.
The former Chelsea and Everton manager returned to management late last month when he took charge of the Sky Blues in the Championship, replacing the long-serving and popular Mark Robins in the job.
While his desire to prove himself in the dugout has been praised, Lampard tasted his first defeat since taking over with a 2-0 loss at West Brom on Wednesday (11 December).
That arguably exposed some of the frailties in the Coventry squad, and Morrison expects the 46-year-old will be given the required funds to improve the options available to him when the market reopens.
Speaking on Sky Sports Soccer Saturday about Lampard taking on that role, the former Crystal Palace and Birmingham striker said (12.25pm): “It’s a big job, losing Mark Robins was a huge blow, the fans were disappointed.
“But it’s not Frank the footballer it’s Frank as a manager, because he has to succeed at this football club.
“But I think they’ll give him money again in January to spend and kick on.”
Frank Lampard needs to be backed by Coventry City in January
Football Insider Opinion
After underwhelming spells in the Premier League with Everton and Chelsea, this feels like a big job for Lampard when it comes to his managerial career.
He is already coming under scrutiny for some of his comments, and if he was to have another poor stint in management here, clubs will become even more wary of giving him another go in the dugout.
Right now though Coventry look a long way from the side that almost made the FA Cup final and Championship play-offs last season.
So if he is not backed to improve the squad in January, Lampard is going to find it difficult to get things moving in the right direction again.

That could leaving him on a hiding to nothing at Coventry, especially given he is already having to win over a fanbase who did not want to see Robins dismissed from his role with the club.
As a result, Lampard will surely have to push the board at The CBS Arena for money to be given to him to spend in the January window to give him the best chance to succeed here.
In other news, one pundit has suggested Frank Lampard could miss the chance to face one of his former Premier League rivals while managing Coventry.
