Frank Lampard’s main Coventry City ‘concern’ revealed after Premier League link revealed
Coventry City boss Frank Lampard wants to sign cover in wide areas and central midfield in January amid rumours that he could be set to leave for the Premier League.
Coventry have been the Championship’s outstanding team this season, after they were beaten in the play-off semi-finals by eventual promotion winners Sunderland at the end of the last campaign.
Frank Lampard‘s side have led the way since the first week of the season and remain top of the second-tier as it stands with 48 points from 22 games so far.
Ipswich beat Coventry 2-0 on Monday, however, and they have won just two of their last six league games, so clearly need some January incomings to seal a long-awaited promotion to the top flight.
Lampard is in the running to be the next West Ham manager as a result of their strong showings this season, and it has now been revealed what Sky Blues owner Doug King must do in January to keep him happy.
Lampard targeting wingers and central midfield cover in January
His squad has been depleted in some recent games, with the likes of Brandon Thomas-Asante, Bobby Thomas and Liam Kitching all facing time on the sidelines.
Such an unprecedented campaign has left fans with lofty expectations, and the Sky Blues must be active in the January market to bolster Lampard’s ranks.
According to a new report from the Guardian, the Chelsea legend is believed to be eager to strengthen his options on the wing in particular, with Tatsuhiro Sakamoto and Ephron Mason-Clark the only genuine wingers at the club.

Jack Rudoni‘s fitness issues are also understood to be “a cause for some concern” from Lampard’s point of view, after he missed two months with a calf strain earlier in the season, and so additional cover in central midfield may well be sought out in the new year.
Coventry cannot lose Haji Wright in January amid transfer rumours
Rudoni was linked with a move to Southampton in the summer, but he did not leave Coventry, which has massively worked in their favour as he has been a key player in their promotion charge so far this season.
Wright has also shone for the Championship leaders, with eight goals in 18 appearances after he netted 12 times in 29 games last term.

Turkish giants Besiktas have held talks to sign Wright, according to reports, and it goes without saying that losing him would serve as a huge setback to their Championship promotion aims.
Football Insider recently revealed that Leeds are plotting a move for Wright in January to bolster Daniel Farke’s attacking options, but the Sky Blues have remained reluctant to cash in on his services considering their current position in the table.
Coventry cannot lose a player of his ilk midway through a campaign in which they look primed for promotion, and such a sale could push Lampard to want to make an exit before the season is out.
