French giants have Celtic goal machine as back-up plan to main transfer target - report
Marseille have identified Celtic attacker Moussa Dembele as a summer transfer option should they not able to land their main target according to a report.
French football newspaper L’Equipe claims that their first target is Nice and Italy striker Mario Balotelli, but if they are unable to land him their back-up options include Dembele, Vincent Aboubakar of Porto and Seville striker Wissam Ben Yedder.
The report goes on to claim that the former Champions League winners have approached the representatives of two strikers about sounding them out on a move for France, but as yet it is unknown if one of those players was Dembele.
Football Insider verdict
It is unlikely that Moussa Dembele transfer stories are going to stop anytime soon, as he seems to be a player in great demand. And no wonder, in big games – against Rangers and in the Champions League – his qualities have shone through with plenty of goals. Would the player be tempted by a move to Marseille even though he is reportedly not the first choice option of the club? It is hard to say, as he would no doubt have a better chance of making the French national team if he returned to his homeland. With Odsonne Edouard signing for the Hoops for a record transfer fee, there has to be some doubt about Dembele’s future in Glasgow, as there is a real chance he might not be the club’s number one striker anymore. Only time will tell if that proves to be the case, but with the Champions League qualifiers starting in less than a month, any decision on Dembele’s future has to be made quickly.
