Frenkie de Jong: Pundit shares ‘massive’ Man United ‘worry’ after update

Man United should end their pursuit of Frankie de Jong after failing to make a breakthrough in talks.

That’s according to former Leeds United stopper Paddy Kenny, speaking exclusively to Football Insider about the Red Devils’ transfer business.

Spanish journalist Jose Alvarez Haya, as quoted by the Express (22 June), insists Man United are “90% likely” to sign De Jong this summer having been heavily linked with a move following the appointment of Erik ten Hag.

As per Manchester Evening News (23 June) the Red Devils are still locked in negotiations for the 25-year-old and are preparing a fresh offer.

However, after a lack of progress, Kenny claims Man United should walk away.

“They have been in talks for what seems like ages now,” Kenny told Football Insider correspondent Ben Wild.

“Man United have a valuation of the player and so do Barcelona. It seems like those are two very different numbers at this stage.

“At some point, if you aren’t willing to go any higher, then you have to walk away and focus on someone else.

“At some point they have to put that to bed. If they can’t meet that valuation and they aren’t prepared to go any higher, I’m not sure what else they can do.

“Man United need bodies in for the start of pre-season and at the moment it doesn’t look like that is going to happen.

“That’s a massive worry for me.”

De Jong joined Barcelona from Ajax in the summer of 2019 and instantly became a key player during a difficult period for the club.

He has made 140 total appearances for Barca and has scored 13 goals.

In other news, Man United fans ‘should be worried’ after a ‘very strange’ transfer development, according to one pundit.
