‘Frimpong to Liverpool is done this week’ – fans wowed by German source’s update

Liverpool fans are ecstatic at the prospect of signing Jeremie Frimpong as a deal for the Bayer Leverkusen full-back edges closer.

Trent Alexander-Arnold’s recently-announced exit from Anfield after 20 years as a Red opens up a spot on the right-hand side of Arne Slot’s defence next season, and he’s keen to bring in a fellow Dutchman.

Football Insider revealed on 11 May that Slot would snub the chance to sign either Frimpong or Denzel Dumfries as an Alexander-Arnold replacement, with Conor Bradley set to be given the first opportunity.

However, with the Leverkusen flyer open to leaving the 2023–24 Bundesliga champions this summer, the Reds have re-entered the race for Frimpong and a quick-fire transfer could soon be signed and sealed.

Liverpool ‘on the verge of completing’ Jeremie Frimpong transfer

Former Man United chief scout Mick Brown told Football Insider in March that Slot wanted a “face-to-face meeting” with Frimpong before he decided on the transfer, but he’s already made up his mind.

German outlet Kicker reported on 13 May that Frimpong‘s move to Anfield is “close to completion” after Liverpool ramped up their interest in the 24-year-old in the wake of Alexander-Arnold’s imminent exit.

Talks between the Reds and Frimpong’s representatives are already “well advanced” with only minor details still to be completed, and Liverpool are more than happy to pay his £34million release clause.

Frimpong’s contract at the BayArena includes the clause which is well in Liverpool‘s price range, and he’s expected to sign a five-year deal until 2030 after 30 goals in 190 appearances for Leverkusen.

Liverpool fans gush over ‘absolutely rapid’ Frimpong transfer

Although many Liverpool fans and internal sources see Bradley as the ready-made successor to Alexander-Arnold on the right-hand side, few will be disappointed with a player of Frimpong’s calibre.

Frimpong may not be a typical, defensive-minded right-back many have yearned for amid Alexander-Arnold’s occasional struggles in the position, but it’s arguable he could be just as dangerous in attack.

Liverpool supporters urged their fellow fans to “enjoy the ride” and that Frimpong’s “rapid” pace would be a perfect foil for Mohamed Salah out wide, with “speed, skill and a bright future” on the horizon for Slot’s right flank next term.
