‘From what I’m told’ – Crystal Palace ‘making progress’ on January signings

Crystal Palace know they must strengthen their squad in the January transfer window and have already begun working to strengthen in key positions.

That is according to former Man United and Blackburn chief scout Mick Brown, who remains very well-connected within the game, as he exclusively told Football Insider that Palace are prepared to spend on key areas of the squad.

Oliver Glasner labelled his side “embarrassing” following Palace’s 4-1 defeat to Leeds which saw them concede four goals from set pieces.

On top of that, however, there are growing concerns about the players’ fitness given their unprecedented fixture congestion and lack of options for rotation.

As a result, work has begun to strengthen the squad in key areas, with the club’s recruitment team working to identify and push forward with key targets.

Crystal Palace working on busy January transfer window

Brown told Football Insider last month that Crystal Palace will back Glasner in January as they are aware they left him frustrated with their slow summer window.

The former scout, who has a wealth of experience in top-level player recruitment after over a decade at Man United during their most successful period, insisted that the manager has made the club aware of which positions he wants to strengthen.

The depth Palace have is not enough for their current schedule,” he told Football Insider.

“That has been proven time after time at a number of different clubs, you can’t compete across all four competitions as the manager wants to do, without a deep squad.

“It’s a very difficult position for the manager, because on one hand he wants a stable team and starting XI, but on the other they need to rest the players.

“Otherwise you’re at risk of picking up injuries, and we’ve seen that happen already.

“The positive is, the club are very aware of what the situation is, and the manager has made sure of that by coming out after games and making it public.

“From what I’m told, they’re already working to make progress and strengthen in the most important areas, those discussions have taken place.

“So I would expect them to be busy in the transfer window, because they know they need to be.

“I have a lot of respect for Glasner, I like the way he presents himself and he never comes across as somebody who says things just for the sake of saying them.

“He has made the club aware of the situation, even though coming out with it publicly isn’t ideal, and now they must act on it.”

Oliver Glasner update emerges at Selhurst Park

Glasner has rightfully been frustrated with the state of play at Palace, despite what has been a strong start to the season in the league, Conference League, and League Cup.

Football Insider revealed in September that Palace will do everything in their power to keep Glasner at Selhurst Park despite reports of tension behind the scenes.

The boss’ current contract is set to expire at the end of the season, and while Crystal Palace hope to extend Glasner‘s deal, they are ready for any eventuality.

This comes after reports linked Palace with Getafe manager Jose Bordalas, although despite the claims, the Austrian has yet to make a decision about his future.

However, Brown warned Football Insider on 1 December that Glasner could walk away from Crystal Palace when his contract expires due to the lack of ambition.
