‘From What I’m Told’ – Insider on Tottenham sacking Thomas Frank

Thomas Frank is facing serious questions over his role as Tottenham manager amid growing calls for his dismissal following recent results.

That is according to former Tottenham and Man United senior scout Mick Brown, who remains very well-connected at his previous clubs, as he exclusively told Football Insider that Frank is not expected to be sacked imminently, but pressure is building.

This comes after Tottenham lost 3-0 to Nottingham Forest at the City Ground, meaning they have now won just one of their last seven Premier League games.

Football Insider revealed on 3 December that Frank’s position at Tottenham is safe at least until the new year, but he is expected to turn their fortunes around.

However, against a backdrop of growing frustrations from the supporters and a major downturn in performances, there is a feeling that something has to change.

Thomas Frank facing growing pressure at Tottenham

Brown told Football Insider on 1 December that Tottenham are keen to stick by Frank as they are investing in a long-term project under his stewardship.

The former scout, who has a wealth of experience working alongside elite-level managers including Sir Alex Ferguson during Man United’s most successful period, insisted that a failure to turn around recent results could lead to his dismissal.

There is a lot of pressure on Frank,” he told Football Insider.

“Fans have been calling for him to be sacked, and after a result like the one against Nottingham Forest, he’s not going to have done himself any favours.

“I wouldn’t expect anything to happen immediately, because from what I’m told, they’re hoping to stick with him for the foreseeable future.

“But obviously, if results aren’t picking up and the crowd start turning against him, serious questions will be asked and it could force them to make a decision about where he stands.

“The feeling is that they want to back him long-term, so turning against him this early into his tenure isn’t going to be part of their plans.

“I know he’s been given a while to get his ideas across and he hasn’t quite met expectations yet, they’re having a torrid time and they have to turn that around.

“But they want to stick with the manager and hope he will be the one to get them out of it.”

Tottenham issues run deeper than sacking Frank

Brown told Football Insider earlier this month that Tottenham could sack Frank, but it would do little to change the underlying reasons for their recent struggles.

Their disappointing start to the season comes off the back of what was another dismal spell under Ange Postecoglou, with similar problems recurring.

Concerns about last term’s 17th-placed finish were eased by their Europa League success, but the deep-rooted issues go beyond surface-level results.

Meanwhile, Brown told Football Insider that Frank is eyeing an overhaul of his Tottenham squad, with major changes part of his plans to reverse their recent fortunes.

The boss is set to push for further improvements to mould the squad to suit his style, but despite the board’s backing off the pitch, their spending may be limited.
