‘From what I’ve been hearing’ – Keith Wyness reveals latest on Sergio Reguilon to Everton
Sergio Reguilon’s chances of completing a move to Everton on a free transfer have been revealed by the club’s former CEO.
Reguilon was released by Tottenham over the summer, after falling down the pecking order in North London.
The former Spain international made just five appearances in all competitions for Spurs last season, and was sent out on loan for the two campaigns before that.
With the Toffees suffering injuries in the full-back areas, Everton were linked with Reguilon as a potential solution to that problem.
However, Everton’s former chief Keith Wyness – who served as CEO at Goodison Park between 2004 and 2009 and now runs a football consultancy advising elite clubs – doesn’t believe that his old side will make a definitive move for the 28-year-old.

Sergio Reguilon’s chances of joining Everton discussed
Speaking on the new edition of Football Insider’s Inside Track podcast, Wyness insisted that Reguilon is likely to make the switch back to Spain in order to try and resurrect his career.
Vitalii Mykolenko has now returned from injury for Everton, which reduces their need to dip into the free agent market for a left-back.
Wyness added that there is still a chance that Reguilon could end up back at Tottenham, but a move to La Liga is far more likely.
He told Football Insider‘s Inside Track podcast: “I don’t think he’ll end up at Everton. I think he’s probably going to go back to Spain, from what I’ve been hearing from my Spanish sources.
“I don’t know if really left back is what Everton need right now. They’ve already got one (Adam Aznou), who they bought in the summer and hasn’t played yet. They’ve also got Mykolenko back in, so I don’t know if they’re going to get Reguilon.
“I mean, he may well end up back at Spurs where he was before. He’s 28, not necessarily the right signing for Everton. I’d be happier with the right back. I’m hearing it’s a faint hope, and I don’t think it’ll happen.”
Sevilla possible next destination for Reguilon
Meanwhile, Reguilon is expected to join up with one of his former clubs in Spain, sources have told Football Insider.
Sevilla are one of the front-runners for his signature as things stand, which would mean a move back to the side he was at before Tottenham.
Reguilon had a loan spell at Sevilla from Real Madrid in the 2019-20 season, before completing the switch to Spurs.
However, Real Sociedad are also in the race for the left-back, meaning his next destination is far from confirmed.
