Frozen-out international recalled for Everton v Manchester United clash after clear-the-air talks - report

By Alex Stevens

Luke Shaw has been recalled to the Manchester United squad for their Premier League clash against Everton on Tuesday night, according to a report.

The Mail claim the England international will be named by Jose Mourinho in his matchday 18 for the Old Trafford showdown.

It is said that clear-the-air talks took place between Shaw and Mourinho in the manager’s office at United’s training headquarters on Monday morning.

The Portugese subsequently gave the green light for the left-back to return to the squad after he was omitted completely for six of the last eight league matches.

Shaw has played just twice in the last four matches and did not figure in Saturday’s goalless draw against West Brom despite the team being decimated by injuries and suspensions.

Mourinho has gone public with his criticism of the frozen-out ace, most notably at the weekend when he claimed the 21-year-old cannot compare to his team-mates in “the way he trains, the way he commits, the focus, the ambition”.

This appears to have jolted Shaw into action and the discussions with the manager have reportedly had the effect of an immediate return to the squad.

The defender was pictured arriving at the Lowry Hotel in Manchester on Monday ahead of Tuesday’s clash against Ronald Koeman’s side.

United need to win to keep their hopes of a top-four finish alive after the results were not in their favour at the weekend.
