FSG standing in the way of Liverpool completing Kylian Mbappe deal after confirmed news – pundit

Liverpool will never be able to afford Kylian Mbappe’s wages under Fenway Sports Group, according to Kevin Campbell.

The former Arsenal and Everton striker, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, suggested the Reds will never be able to compete with Europe’s richest clubs under their current owners.

On Saturday (21 May), Paris Saint-Germain confirmed Mbappe has put pen to paper on a new three-year deal at the club.

According to Sky Sports (21 May), the new contract will see the France international earn around £1million-a-week.

Mbappe had been in negotiations with Real Madrid over a potential move to the Bernabeu this summer.

In an interview with The Telegraph‘s Jason Burt (23 May), Mbappe revealed that he was also in talks with Jurgen Klopp and Liverpool regarding a move.

When asked if a move to Anfield could happen in the future, Campbell told Football Insider assistant editor Dylan Childs: “Liverpool wouldn’t be able to afford Mbappe under their current owners.

“He liked Real Madrid but that didn’t work out because he got an incredible contract at PSG.

“Now the numbers are astronomical because he is classed as the next superstar. He is already a superstar but he is classed as the next one to hit the heights of [Lionel] Messi and [Cristiano] Ronaldo. PSG paid him accordingly.

Liverpool

“Liverpool cannot agree on a deal with [Mohamed] Salah so how would they ever be able to afford Mbappe. The Salah deal is nowhere near that money.

“You have to weigh it up and look at the finances. Sometimes players can be priced out of a club like Liverpool. They don’t pay the numbers the other big European clubs do.”

In other news, a finance guru has claimed ‘millions of people will take notice’ as new Liverpool deal is announced.
