Fulham ace Iwobi and Ipswich star Delap react to Jay Stansfield latest at Birmingham
Fulham attacker Alex Iwobi and Ipswich Town striker Liam Delap have both responded to Birmingham City striker Jay Stansfield after his latest update.
The forward spent last season on loan with the Midlands club, where he was unable to prevent them suffering relegation from the Championship to League One despite some strong individual performances.
Birmingham then signed Stansfield permanently from Fulham in the summer transfer window in what was a record-breaking deal for a League One club.
Now, that move has emphatically paid off for Blues at the first time of asking, in the wake of their 2-1 win over Peterborough United on Tuesday (8 April).

Jay Stansfield reacts as promotion confirmed
That victory over Posh ensured that Birmingham have now secured an immediate promotion back to the Championship this season.
Stansfield has played an important part in that success for Chris Davies‘ side, scoring 18 goals in 31 league appearances so far this season.
As a result, the 22-year-old was understandably keen to celebrate, after seeing his club confirm their return to the second-tier of English football.
League One position | Played | Points |
1. Birmingham | 40 | 95 |
2. Wrexham | 41 | 81 |
3. Wycombe | 41 | 78 |
Taking to Instagram following that win over Peterborough, Stansfield posted several images of the celebrations after the game.
He then captioned that by tagging the club alongside blue and white loveheart emojis, with his post receiving attention from certain players in the Premier League.
Iwobi, who has of course been a teammate of Stansfield’s at Fulham, and Ipswich striker Delap – who has played with the Birmingham striker at youth level for England – were among those to like his post.
Birmingham City will be aiming for more after promotion success
Football Insider Verdict
Next up for Stansfield and his teammates is another clash with Peterborough at Wembley on Sunday (13 April) in the final of the EFL Trophy.
That will give Birmingham the chance to claim another accolade as they look to continue their progress, which under their owners goes a lot further than just a place in the Championship.
Stansfield’s goals have been important for Davies’ side this season, and since they have now won promotion, their investment in him has paid off so far.
The striker is now making a name for himself at St Andrew’s, while Fulham earned a big windfall for him, and have enjoyed an excellent season of their own in the Premier League.
With that in mind it does appear as though this is a deal that will end up working out well for all concerned.
