Fulham line up new manager to replace Marco Silva after Shahid Khan’s latest move

Fulham have identified Strasbourg boss Liam Rosenior as a potential replacement for Marco Silva if he leaves the club soon.

Fulham have struggled so far this season after a quiet summer transfer window saw them fail to add much quality to their squad.

Silva has been the Cottagers’ boss for four years now as he led them to the Premier League in his first season in charge and has helped them consolidate ever since.

Doubts around his future at the club have emerged in recent months, however, with Football Insider revealing that Silva could quit his job at Fulham as talks over a new contract continue to stall with his current deal set to expire next summer.

Football Insider’s sources have stated that Fulham are eyeing up Brendan Rodgers amid doubts around Silva’s future, and Rosenior is now also thought to be on their radar if the Portuguese boss departs.

Fulham interested in hiring Rosenior if Silva leaves soon

Rosenior made over 400 appearances in English football prior to moving into management, with spells at Derby County and Hull City before he was appointed as Strasbourg‘s manager in July 2024.

He led the club to a seventh-placed Ligue 1 finish and Conference League qualification in his first season in charge, and they currently sit eighth in the French top-flight and second in the UECL table.

According to a new report from talkSPORT, Rosenior is understood to be on Fulham’s radar to become their next manager, after he played 92 times for the club between 2004 and 2008.

The report states that Strasbourg chiefs BlueCo, who also own Chelsea, may not find it easy to persuade him to stay if the Cottagers come calling soon.

Fulham are thought to be an attractive prospect for Rosenior due to the uncertainty of Silva’s future at the club, even though owner Shahid Khan has previously insisted that the 48-year-old is part of the club’s long-term plans [talkSPORT].

Silva could quit Fulham soon despite being in ‘contact’ over a new deal

Silva’s Fulham contract is rapidly approaching its end, and it is clearly imperative that things are sorted out one way or another soon.

Recent reports have stated that Silva has been offered a long-term extension at Fulham, but it looks as if he is the one that is unsure to commit to a new deal as the club now eye up potential successors.

He has been asked to comment publicly on his future, but admitted in September that he did not want the situation to distract from his players and the task at hand, which is to improve on the pitch.

Silva said: “Yes, it’s true that I’m in the last year (of my) contract. One thing is that I’m not going to let the people talk about my contract situation – never will (it) be a distraction in this football club, never.

“If the club is going to speak with me, of course, we had some conversations last season, we are ready to sit. The approach is easy, we are always speaking, I’m always speaking, I’m in contact with the people from the club.

“The right timing will come for these conversations for sure. Until then, until the moment that we have something to announce or not, it’s never going to be a distraction.

Regardless of any off-field talks, the main focus for Fulham and Silva right now needs to be their on-pitch woes, with the club sat just four points off the relegation zone after just three wins from their last 10 league games.
