Fulham news: Ex-Premier League referee issues emphatic verdict as MOTD's Aleksandar Mitrovic footage analysed

Keith Hackett has hailed referee Graham’s Scott’s decision to award Fulham a penalty against Bournemouth on Saturday (15 October).

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the former Premier League referee said players should “play with their feet and not their hands”.

As shown on the BBC’s Match of the Day (15 October), Aleksandar Mitrovic was wrestled to the ground by Jefferson Lerma inside the Bournemouth penalty area.

Referee Graham Scott awarded a penalty to Fulham and Mitrovic slotted home to secure a 2-2 draw against the Cherries.

Hackett insisted Scott made the correct decision to award a penalty.

He [Mitrovic] is an experienced player, we have seen it all season if anybody gets near him,” he told Football Insider.

The referee has sold the decision really well. He has explained that the defenders has got his arms, as he has, near the number nine on the back of the shirt.

That is the correct decision. Good on Graham Scott to give it. We want more of that type of decision.

I think if you actually look at it the player spun a bit. Ultimately at the end of the day you cannot put your arms round your opponent and get away with it.

We will get a period where fans and managers are unhappy with their decisions but players have got to play with their feet and not their hands, other than the goalkeeper.
