Fulham want to cut their losses after ticket-price hike – Stefan Borson
Fulham are charging high ticket prices for the biggest games of the season to try and reduce their overall losses.
That is the view of finance expert Stefan Borson, who exclusively told Football Insider the west London club are likely looking to charge a premium for tickets because of their location.
Fulham are charging between £150-160 for tickets in their new Riverside Stand for their game against Arsenal on 8 December.
Marco Silva’s side posted a record revenue of £182.3million in their latest accounts for 2022-23, while they made a £26.1million loss across the same period.
Fulham ticket prices to remain high if demand continues growing
Borson believes those losses are driving Craven Cottage chiefs to continue increasing the ticket prices.
“Fulham are in quite a unique situation,” Borson told Football Insider.
“I suspect that they work on the basis that it’s a sort of specific case where you can charge a premium because that west London audience will pay and can pay.
“They have got American owners, so they look at it in terms of what are other live events going for in the rest of the world, be that NFL games or live music gigs.
“Fulham will look at those prices and say ‘That’s what people are paying for one event, why shouldn’t we charge £150 for the biggest football match this season?’.
“I think we have all got a problem as fans with the prices. Unless you are an away fan, where you have got the £30 cap, these pricing issues are real, and clubs are going to test the elasticity of demand compared to music events and other live sport, particularly with that US influence.
“There is definitely a lot of price inflation with these tickets, particularly in London. The only way in which it stops is if there are loads of empty seats. If there are a load of empty seats, then clubs will have to bring the prices down.
“But if they can fill those seats at £150, they are going to stick at £150 for the biggest games.

“The clubs will say ‘We need to meet PSR, have to pay for players and we have just built this new stand’.
“All of that is true and the clubs are not profitable at all, so it’s not a situation where anybody can point to the profit and loss accounts and say they are just profiteering from the fans.
“The reality is they are all making losses and all they are trying to do is cut the losses with those ticket prices.”
