‘Full boycott now’ – Celtic fans rage at what ‘egotistical’ board member was spotted doing vs Dundee United

Celtic fans are fuming with their chief financial officer Chris McKay after he was pictured filming and laughing at away supporters during their 2-1 loss to Dundee United.

Celtic lost 2-1 to Dundee United on Wednesday evening as the start of Wilfried Nancy‘s tenure went from bad to worse with a fourth successive defeat since his arrival.

Daizen Maeda‘s early strike proved fruitless in their search for three points as Krisztian Keresztes and Zachary Sapsford scored within three minutes of each other in the second half to leave Celtic six points behind league leaders Hearts.

Nancy could face the sack soon despite being in the job for less than a month, with supporters fuming at him, as well as those behind the scenes, for the predicament that they currently find themselves in.

Long-serving Celtic chairman Peter Lawwell is to step down from his role on 31 December due to fan unrest and apparent abuse directed at him and his family, yet such vitriol has not stopped another member of the club’s board from seemingly goading their supporters.

Celtic’s CFO McKay was seen laughing at away fans at Tannadice Park

McKay joined the Hoops’ board in 2016 and was appointed as their chief financial officer in December 2021, so he will be fully aware of the lofty expectations that supporters rightly set for the club each season.

He was involved as Celtic’s recent board AGM was cancelled midway through due to disruption by a small group of protestors, with supporters particularly annoyed at McKay as he insisted that they had spent enough in the summer to compete in the Premiership and Europa League.

Celtic’s chief executive Michael Nicholson condemned the “abuse and threats” directed towards outgoing chairman Lawwell as” completely unacceptable” in a statement on Wednesday, yet McKay seemed happy to joke at the supporters’ expense and invite vitriol during their loss to Dundee United.

The 50-year-old was pictured allegedly goading supporters from the stands in an X post from Celtic Fans Collective that said: “As the club crumbles around him, the £500k CFO Chris McKay plays cameraman – laughing, filming fans, and giving them a thumbs-up.

Celtic fans fume at McKay and call for a boycott against the board at Parkhead

The problems clearly run deep at Celtic right now, but Nancy looks likely to be the man who loses his job as he struggles to get his side playing the way he wants.

Their next game on Sunday at home to Aberdeen is a must-win for the Frenchman, if he is still in charge, but some supporters have insisted that they will not be at Parkhead due to McKay’s actions and their general grievances with the board.

Taking to X to react to the aforementioned post, one fan said: “Fans have to stop attending games. You cannot oust this scum while still lining them and their shareholders pockets. They do not care about your chants and banners.

Another said: “This behaviour from a CFO towards fans is disrespectful, egotistical and antagonistic towards those who spend their hard earned cash in order to support their club.”

While one added: “Strange behaviour by people who are supposedly under a serious threat of physical harm.
