Gabby Agbonlahor and Morgan Rogers react to Aston Villa contract announcement

Gabby Agbonlahor and Morgan Rogers have shown their support on social media after Aston Villa announced a new contract signing.

Unai Emery will be too focused on the current campaign to even begin thinking about next season, but his staff will be keen to tie their biggest stars down to new deals ahead of the summer transfer window.

Boubacar Kamara is one of the players Villa want to put pen to paper on a contract extension, with a “historic” new deal that would likely blow potential suitors out of the water.

Ollie Watkins has also been linked with a Villa Park exit, having gained interest from Arsenal in the previous transfer window, but Emery will be wanting to build upwards rather than take a step back.

However, the Villans appear to have put youth first, with Lamine Bogarde extending his future in Birmingham, having come through the academy since joining from Feyenoord in 2020.

Lamine Bogarde feels the love as Aston Villa youngster signs new contract

Taking to Instagram [7 April], the club’s official account wrote: “Aston Villa is delighted to announce that Lamare Bogarde has signed a new contract with the club.”

Gabby Agbonlahor, Darko Gyabi and Axel Disasi all liked the post, with Rogers and Ian Maatsen replying with love hearts, while Amadou Onana commented: “Braddaaaaa,” with more love hearts.

Unai Emery can achieve incredible success at Villa Park

Football Insider verdict

Some supporters will be disappointed that the contract news is not about someone more important at Villa Park, but keeping talented youth players cannot be underestimated.

With Villa still battling across three different competitions – the Premier League, Champions League and FA Cup – it is impossible for the players not to burn out with enough rotation.

Villa’s season comes down to the final few weeks.

A top-four finish in the Premier League is still very much a possibility, which would ensure Champions League football ahead of next season, but winning the European competition now would be incredible.

It is easy to see why Emery is being linked with the Man United job, with Ruben Amorim seriously struggling at Old Trafford, but there is no reason why the Spaniard would leave right now.

While Bogarde’s contract extension is a good sign, fans will be expecting multiple big-name supporters to secure their future at Villa Park ahead of a scary summer transfer window.
