Gabby Agbonlahor gives his verdict on Aston Villa player ahead of Barnsley clash

By Amir Mir

Gabby Agbonlahor was pleased for Aaron Tshibola after he scored his first goal for Aston Villa in their 1-1 draw with Newcastle on Saturday.

Striker Agbonlahor has been left out of manager Roberto Di Matteo’s plans this term, but praised the team performance after they fought back to earn a late draw against Rafa Benitez’ side.

Tshibola, 21, came off the substitutes bench to nod home an 88th minute equaliser, after teammate Tommy Elphick had earlier converted the ball into his own net.

Agbonlahor, 29, has not featured for the Midlands side this season, but expressed his delight as Villa picked up their sixth draw of the campaign.

“Great team spirit from the boys,” Agbonlahor wrote on his personal Instagram account. “Buzzing for Aaron Tshibola, but shocking interview.”

Here is Agbonlahor giving his verdict on Villa’s and Tshibola’s performance at the weekend.

Tshibola has made four appearances in the league for Di Matteo’s side since his summer move from Championship side Reading.

Villa sit in 17th position with nine points from their opening nine games and have not registered a win since August.

Di Matteo will now plan for a trip to south-Yorkshire to take on Paul Heckingbottom’s Barnsley side on Tuesday night.
