Gabby Agbonlahor issues damning Chelsea prediction after Bayern Munich loss
Chelsea fell to a dismal 3-1 defeat away at Bayern Munich in their opening Champions League fixture of the season.
Harry Kane broke a Champions League record with his brace, adding to an own goal from Trevoh Chalobah.
Kane’s first came after Bayern Munich were awarded a penalty against Chelsea, and Pat Nevin couldn’t believe it took so long to be given.
Cole Palmer’s effort got the visitors back into the contest at 2-1, but a woeful defensive display left fans raging as Bayern Munich swept Chelsea away, winning 3-1.

Gabby Agbonlahor feels Chelsea don’t have enough to win major titles
Chelsea fans ripped Tosin Adarabioyo’s performance against Bayern Munich, and Gabby Agbonlahor has gone one step further.
Speaking on talkSPORT, Agbonlahor spoke about Chelsea’s strength against Europe’s elite clubs: “The club world cup for me wasn’t a proper competition, how Liverpool weren’t in the competition, how Barcelona weren’t in the competition, how Napoli weren’t in the competition, doesn’t make sense.
“I look at Tosin and Chalobah who are very good defenders to get you top four season after season but they’re not going to win you a Premier League or a Champions League.
“And when they’ve played a proper team, Gnabry, Olise, Diaz, Harry Kane making runs in behind in them, they couldn’t handle it last night.”
Chelsea’s £270 million backline looks helpless
According to Transfermarkt, Chelsea’s backline is worth an accumulative value of £270 million, with the club having spent huge fees on defenders recently.
However, for all the money Todd Boehly has spent on his defence, major issues continue to arise at the back for Maresca’s side.
Chelsea’s upcoming fixtures | Competition |
Manchester United (A) | Premier League |
Lincoln City (A) | Carabao Cup |
Brighton (H) | Premier League |
Benfica (H) | Champions League |
Liverpool (H) | Premier League |
On numerous occasions, they struggled to deal with Brentford’s direct play in their 2-2 draw on Saturday, and against Bayern Munich, they were woeful again.
Maresca will hope his current backline can shore up in the coming weeks, but the Spaniard may be asking Boehly to loosen his purse strings again next summer.
