Gabby Agbonlahor tears one Newcastle star to shreds for display vs Man City: ‘He’s so bad’
Newcastle United endured a sorry night as they were knocked out of the Carabao Cup away at Manchester City.
A three-goal salvo from the hosts in the first half proved to be more than enough to see them safely through to face Arsenal in the Wembley final, despite Anthony Elanga’s eye-catching consolation goal in the second half.
Newcastle fans were seething with their team’s performance at the Etihad Stadium, as several huge chances went begging as the defence of their Carabao Cup title fell at the penultimate hurdle.
Gabby Agbonlahor has gained a reputation for not shying away from being brutally honest about players, and he wasted no time in making his feelings known during Newcastle’s defeat.

Gabby Agbonlahor left in disbelief over Nick Woltemade
Nick Woltemade has had a mixed start at Newcastle after his big-money move from Stuttgart in the summer.
Bayern Munich had their eyes fixed on the big striker after some impressive displays saw him net 12 goals from just 28 games in the Bundesliga last term, but he is going through a difficult spell at the moment.
The 23-year-old’s time with the Magpies began with five goals in his first six starts in all competitions, but his form has since faded dramatically in recent months.
Woltemade is now without a goal since his double against Chelsea on 20 December, after he struggled to make a significant impact again in the defeat to Manchester City.
Eddie Howe hooked the £70million man as part of a triple half-time change for Newcastle, as he tried to spark a comeback from his team, and Agbonlahor has shown no sympathy towards the frontman.
The former Aston Villa forward took to X to share his disbelief at Woltemade’s pricetag, as he wrote: “Woltemade is so bad! 70m pound sterling, ladies and gentlemen.”
Woltemade leads game for unwanted stat vs Man City
Newcastle spurned several quality chances during their midweek defeat to City, but none of them fell to Woltemade during his anonymous 45 minutes on the pitch.
The German struggled to have any sort of positive impact on a frantic opening period that continually saw both teams exchange fast-paced counter-attacks, with plenty of space in behind both backlines.
| Stats | Woltemade Total |
| Touches | 11 |
| Accurate Passes | 7/7 (100%) |
| Shots | – |
| Possession Lost | 2 |
| Defensive Contributions | 1 |
That isn’t really Woltemade’s style of game, and that was highlighted by the fact that he had just 11 touches of the ball during his entire cameo at the Etihad Stadium.
No player who started the game managed fewer touches than the Newcastle striker, according to Sofascore, while Rico Lewis managed more touches in just his seven-minute cameo at the end of the game.
Woltemade was often left isolated at the top of the pitch, but he simply didn’t offer enough for his team, who needed him to be a focal point for their play if they were to have any chance of turning the tie on its head.
