Gabriel Jesus is surely set to leave Arsenal this summer now that Kai Havertz has confirmed his desire to stay at the club for the foreseeable future.

Strikers Jesus and Havertz have both struggled to make an impact on Arsenal’s fortunes this season due to recurring injury concerns.

The Brazilian has only appeared in 11 Premier League matches so far this term, while Havertz has managed to make just 14 appearances across all competitions.

Speculation has surrounded both players ahead of the summer transfer window, with one set to make an exit as Mikel Arteta plans an overhaul of his attacking ranks.

The latest from Havertz on his future at the Emirates Stadium means it looks inevitable that Jesus will be involved in Arsenal’s transfer plans this summer.

Neither player has produced anything close to what is expected of them this season, but Viktor Gyokeres’ relatively regular scoring rate has meant Arsenal have been able to lead the way in the Premier League for most of the campaign.

Havertz has been tipped to leave the Gunners this summer in recent weeks, but he categorically outlined his desire to stay at the club when asked about such rumours this week.

While on international duty with Germany, he said: “To be honest, I haven’t heard anything about that, or read anything about it either.

“I feel right at home at Arsenal. I think everyone there is also very happy with me. Sure, it’s not been an easy season, but I definitely see my future at Arsenal, in London.”

It is clear that he has made no plans to depart, which leaves Jesus as the obvious candidate to move on this summer.

He has also struggled for form, even when fit, and was reportedly wanted by Palmeiras in the January window.

Arteta wants to make changes to his attacking ranks this summer, and Football Insider recently revealed that Jesus is up for sale alongside Ben White, so he clearly looks set to leave ahead of his German teammate.

What has Jesus said about his Arsenal future?

Jesus’ contract is set to expire in 2027 as it stands, and the club have not held talks with him over a new deal amid recent injury and form issues.

The 28-year-old may have struggled this season, but he has still expressed a desire to stay at the club and win more trophies in the years to come.

Speaking in January, he said: “Like I said before, my wish is to stay at Arsenal. And then I have a contract as well. Obviously if you ask me, I want to extend my contract.

“I want to stay and I want to win trophies with Arsenal because I came here with a purpose. Then that’s it. But obviously the reality is different.

“Sometimes it can go (another) way. But my focus is to stay healthy and then win trophies with Arsenal.”

He may well have his heart set on at least seeing out his current deal in North London, but it looks as if Arteta has other ideas, and he is likely to be the one striker who is sold to make way for new additions.
