Arsenal and Chelsea provided a breathtaking display of attacking football in Wednesday night’s London derby which ended 2-2.
The Gunners will count themselves unlucky not to have taken all three points from the match given the chances that fell to the north Londoners.
Indeed, Wenger’s side were unfortunate to have conceded a penalty for the second game running as Bellerin’s attempt to take the ball from Hazard in the penalty area was adjudged a foul and the Belgian international dutifully converted the spot.
But despite failing to win maximum points from the game, Arsenal supporters were lauding the display of Ainsley Maitland-Niles on Twitter.
The 20-year-old, usually considered a winger, was deployed on the right of defence by Wenger and never looked out of place throughout the 90 minutes.
Flare, tenacity, pace and skill were all attributes that the youngster exuded from the start.
Maitland-Niles, whose stature is growing amongst the Arsenal faithful, has now made 15 appearances in all competitions for the Gunners and will hope to add to that tally this weekend.
Nottingham Forrest are up next in the FA Cup for Wenger’s side, followed by a visit to Stamford Bridge in the League Cup.
With Nacho Monreal injured, supporters of the Gunners will hope to see more from Maitland-Niles, who has deputised for the Spaniard in his absence.

Whatever Maitland-Niles' best position is, he should be starting in it every week. He's so cool.

Would love to see him playing alongside wilshire in midfield, his quality on the ball is too good to be utilised as a full back

Maitland-Niles is making playing in these big games look effortless. He’s playing like he’s been playing here for years. One for the future for sure.

Positives for @Arsenal:
– Mesut Özil is a phenomenon.
– Bellerín's best game for Arsenal in a year, maybe Cech's too.
– Ainsley Maitland-Niles is about 100 times better than anyone ever expected.
