Gareth Southgate installed as new favourite for Championship manager job after latest news
Former England manager Gareth Southgate has been installed as the joint-favourite to be the next Leicester City boss by one of the UK’s leading bookmakers.
Leicester‘s return to the Championship has not gone to plan at all so far as they battle against a shock relegation to the third tier.
Marti Cifuentes was appointed as the Foxes’ new boss last summer, but he failed to help them mount a promotion challenge in the first half of the campaign.
Leicester’s chiefs dismissed Cifuentes last month, with the club sat 14th in the Championship, while they are now even further down the table in 21st after being deducted six points for financial irregularities.
Football Insider have revealed that interim boss Andy King does not look set to be given the Leicester job permanently, with Southgate now emerging as a surprise leading contender.

Gareth Southgate is the 4/1 joint-favourite to be Leicester’s new permanent manager
Southgate has been out of work since 2024 when he resigned from his position as England boss following their European Championship final defeat to Spain.
He spent over seven years in charge of the Three Lions, leading them to a World Cup semi-final and two Euros finals, but has since spent time out of management and worked as a technical observer for UEFA.
Southgate has most recently been linked with taking over at Crystal Palace, amid ongoing rumours of him being in line to be Man United’s next manager.

The 55-year-old has now emerged as a surprise top contender to take the Leicester job, at odds of 4/1 according to one of the UK’s leading bookmakers.
Who else is in the running to be Leicester’s next full-time boss?
Former Leicester boss Dean Smith is the other bookies’ favourite alongside Southgate, at 4/1 odds, as he impresses while in charge of MLS side Charlotte FC.
Steven Gerrard is a leading contender to take charge of Leicester next too, at odds of 5/1, while interim boss King comes in at 6/1.

Lincoln City manager Michael Skubala is another near the top of the bookies’ list at odds of 6/1, while Russell Martin is also in the running at 8/1.
Other potential contenders include Vitor Pereira, Gary Rowett and Chris Coleman, each of whom is priced at 12/1 odds by the same leading bookmaker.
