Gareth Southgate labelled ‘disgrace’ by Rangers fans after England ‘scandal’

Rangers fans have been left fuming at Gareth Southgate after Jack Butland was left out of the provisional squad for Euro 2024.

Southgate named four goalkeepers: Dean Henderson of Crystal Palace, Everton’s Jordan Pickford, Arsenal’s Aaron Ramsdale and Burnley’s James Trafford, leaving Butland at home.

There had been calls for the Ibrox shot-stopper, 31, to make the squad after his impressive performances in Scotland.

Butland has kept kept 25 clean sheets across 56 games in all competitions, but has been overlooked again.

The inclusion of Trafford in particular raised questions after the 21-year-old dropped out of the starting XI at relegated Burnley – although his inclusion is clearly for the experience.

Pickford remains England’s number one, while Henderson has turned in impressive performances in Palace’s seven-game unbeaten run.

However, Ramsdale’s inclusion is another contentious decision as he made just ten appearances for the Gunners all season.

Rangers fans could not believe Butland had been left out, labelling Southgate’s decision a “disgrace” and “appalling”, labelling it a “scandal”.

Meanwhile, several fans pointed to “snobbery” towards the SPFL as the reason for his exclusion.
