‘Gareth Southgate to replace Oliver Glasner at Crystal Palace after FA Cup win’

Gareth Southgate may be the man to replace Oliver Glasner as Crystal Palace manager after he was spotted in talks with Steve Parish during the FA Cup final win.

Eberechi Eze wrote his name into the Crystal Palace history books by scoring the lone goal in the Eagles’ 1-0 FA Cup final win over Man City.

In doing so, the England international helped secure the South London side’s first major trophy in their 164-year-long history.

Glasner’s side had endured a miserable start to the season and, despite bouncing back strongly, found it impossible to overtake their rivals for a European place via their league position.

But with their win over Pep Guardiola‘s struggling side, Palace have guaranteed themselves a place in next year’s Europa League.

However, the revival under the Austrian has seen him heavily tipped for a move away, and chairman Parish may have been speaking to his replacement during the final.

Oliver Glasner may look to leave Crystal Palace after FA Cup win

Glasner has been linked with a move to RB Leipzig in Germany, and whilst the Red Bull club cannot offer European football, their squad is full of talent and more financially equipped to deal with potential exits.

Palace struggled to deal with Michael Olise’s move to Bayern Munich in the summer, starting the season slowly.

With Marc Guehi looking set to leave, and Adam Wharton, Jean-Philippe Mateta, and Eze all linked with moves away, the club could be stripped of their top talents this summer.

As a consequence, Glasner could be very tempted by the idea of leaving on a high, rather than having to once again deal with the loss of his best players.

Gareth Southgate previously linked to Crystal Palace job

As reported by The Guardian in October, Southgate was touted as an option to take over from Glasner when Palace were struggling for form.

The other names mentioned, Graham Potter and David Moyes, have both since found jobs at West Ham and Everton, respectively.

Although the Austrian has turned it around there is still a strong chance he leaves, albeit for very different reasons, and the former England manager would likely be one of the leading candidates once again if the job becomes available.

Southgate would make sense tactically, having often employed a similar three-at-the-back system during his time in charge of the Three Lions.

The former Palace player was spotted deep in conversation with Parish during half-time of the FA Cup final, and if it becomes available, the Eagles’ job may be the most enticing job for the 54-year-old since leaving England.
