Gareth Southgate’s next steps revealed after Man United and Crystal Palace latest
Gareth Southgate has no immediate plans to return to club management despite links with a number of potential vacancies in the Premier League.
Southgate had been linked with the positions at Man United and Crystal Palace, both of which will open up in the summer, and remains highly regarded.
Tottenham have become the latest side the former England boss has been linked with following their decision to sack Thomas Frank earlier this week.
However, as I revealed on the latest edition of Football Insider’s Transfer Insider podcast, the 55-year-old is happy with his ventures away from football.
Southgate is still without a managerial job after leaving the England role in 2024, but despite constant links with a return to the Premier League, he is not looking for work.

Gareth Southgate out of the running at Man United
Football Insider revealed last month that Southgate is unlikely to take a Premier League job and has no plans to return to management in the immediate future.
Despite that, he continues to be linked with any potential vacancy that pops up, and while a long-term return to the game can’t be ruled out, it will not be soon.
The former England boss is getting stuck into charity, mentoring and speaking roles, while he has also worked closely with UEFA since his departure.
Speaking on the Transfer Insider podcast, I explained: “I don’t think there’s any possibility that Gareth Southgate could return to management.
“As we’ve spoken previously I don’t think he’s in any rush to get back into the managerial hot seat. He’s enjoying what he’s doing right now.
“He’s doing a lot of work elsewhere, speaking and things like that, so I think he’s more than happy to be out of the spotlight and scrutiny of management.
“Gareth Southgate, if he was to return to management, I think he’d be looking probably at bigger job [than Leicester City, where he has been linked].
“As I said, I don’t think he’s got any immediate plans to be returned to management so I think this one’s a non-starter right now.”
Who will be the next Man United manager?
After Southgate ruled himself out of the running, Man United are continuing to assess a number of elite-level managers to take over in the summer.
Michael Carrick has enjoyed a strong start to life as the interim manager with four wins and one draw from his first five games, and is now in a good position to land the job.
However, Mick Brown told Football Insider on 26 January that Man United will not rush into hiring Carrick and plan to assess their options at the end of the season.

United remain interested in hiring a big name manager to take over on a permanent basis, with the likes of Luis Enrique and Carlo Ancelotti both linked.
Football Insider revealed on 11 January that Man United are lining up a “top-class” manager to become their next permanent boss and are drawing up a shortlist.
