Garry Monk provides fitness update on Leeds star, fans will be delighted

By Harvey Byrne

Leeds boss Garry Monk has shared that he is hopeful that star defender Pontus Jansson will be part of the squad to face Bristol City on Tuesday evening.

The 26-year-old defender missed the weekend’s clash against Cardiff through illness and he was a huge loss as his side fell to a 2-0 defeat.

However, Monk revealed in his press conference, on Monday, as covered by BBC Sport broadcaster Adam Pope on Twitter that Jansson could be back in training tonight and that there is still hope he can feature at Elland Road.

Leeds fans will be delighted to hear that Jansson has not yet been ruled out of the encounter as they are eager for their team to avoid suffering their third loss in a row.

The Bristol City team also contains joint second highest scorer in the league in Tammy Abraham and supporters will feel far more confident with Jansson in their back line than Liam Cooper.

The Sweden international has become a key part of the Yorkshire giants’ back four after joining on loan from Malmo in the summer and the club have already secured him on a permanent deal in the summer.

The powerful defender has featured in 24 encounters for Leeds in all competitions this season and his partnership alongside Kyle Bartley has helped the club exceed pre-season expectations in fifth place.

In other Leeds news, these attackers should be axed from the clash against Bristol City on Tuesday.
