Garry Monk: This is what Leeds players are showing in their promotion push

By Amir Mir

Garry Monk has stated on Twitter that there is a “great atmosphere” within the team and that the Leeds players are showing “real character” following their 2-0 win against Reading.

Striker Chris Wood opened the scoring in the first half, before Souleymane Doukara converted a penalty in stoppage time to seal all three points on Tuesday night at Elland Road.

The result means Monk’s side remain in the play-off places as they are now in fifth place on 35 points from 21 games.

Former Premier League manager Monk has transformed the fortunes of the Yorkshire club, following his arrival in the summer.

After the game, he posted this message to supporters on his personal Twitter account as he expressed his delight at their much-needed victory.

The only disappointing note of the match was the injury to their key striker Wood, who was forced off injured before the break.

The New Zealand international, who has scored 11 league goals this season, was forced off in the 33rd minute because of a hamstring strain and replaced by the returning Liam Bridcutt.

Monk’s side have now picked up back-to-back home wins and they have bounced back in positive fashion following their 2-0 defeat at Brighton last Friday.

They will now look to make it three wins in a row when league strugglers Brentford visit Elland Road on Saturday afternoon.

In other Leeds news, manager Garry Monk has made this admission about their January transfer plans.
