Garth Crooks: Chelsea should steal West Ham magician
Former Tottenham and Manchester City player Garth Crooks has warned West Ham that they might not be able to hold on to Manuel Lanzini if he keeps playing as well as he is.
Speaking in his column on BBC Sport, Crooks suggested that West Ham’s local rivals Chelsea could swoop in for the Argentine, as they consider replacements for the aging Cesc Fabregas.
Lanzini captivated football fans during West Ham’s 4-1 win over Huddersfield, linking up really well with Marko Arnautavic.
Crooks descirbed the Aregentine’s display as magical, as Lanzini netted a double in the second half to secure the win,
“The skillful Argentine was like a sorcerer’s apprentice weaving his magic and left the John Smith’s stadium with the Terriers will under his spell.”
Crooks even went so far as to liken the young attacker to former Hammer Dimitri Payet, who’s delicious attacking football also stole the hearts of West Ham fans.
But the BBC Columnist stated that he thinks Chelsea will attempt to sign Lanzini as his stock only continues to rise,
“The only problem I can foresee is that if Lanzini keeps playing like this, how long before Chelsea come knocking on the door?
“Cesc Fabregas is not getting any younger you know.” Crooks jokingly added.
Lanzini has been selected to start the FA Cup third round replay versus Shrewsbury this evening, and should the Argentine have another performance like his one on the weekend in the Premier League, then it will be no surprise to see the top clubs coming in for him.
